Fr Matthew Charlesworth, S.J.
Fr Matthew Charlesworth, S.J. was born in Cambridge, England and completed his schooling at St Stithians College and studied Information Systems and Management at Rhodes University. He entered the Society of Jesus in 2005 and completed the usual pattern of Jesuit formation: a two year novitiate (Birmingham, England) doing the 30-day silent retreat at Manresa House (Dublin, Ireland), with studies in Philosophy at Heythrop College (London, England); a school regency at Canisius Secondary School (Chikuni, Zambia), where he taught high school mathematics and computer science; and theological studies at Hekima College (Nairobi, Kenya) and Regis College (Toronto, Canada). Since 2005, his Jesuit formation has taken him to Canada, France, Ireland, Kenya, Spain, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, the United States, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. He was ordained to the Priesthood at Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Bishop Duncan Tsoke, auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg on 23 September 2016 where he served as Assistant Pastor and Assistant Chaplain at Holy Trinity for his first year after Ordination.
