Pastor’s Corner for the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C, by Fr. Bruce Botha SJ

To Form Ourselves as Believers for Mission

The Archdiocesan Synod of 2019 encouraged us to adopt a philosophy of continuous, lifelong formation in matters of our faith. This was reiterated in the diocesan phase of the Synod on Synodality. Formation in our faith is more than just sacramental preparation, it happens in our homilies, in the training given for ministries, in ALPHA, in the bulletin and in baptism classes and now also in the monthly Trinity lecture series that has already been launched.

The discussions will be at 11 am on the fourth Sunday of each month, in Trinity House Hall. We will begin with some refreshments followed by the talk, and some time for discussion. You will note that the topics are connected to the outcomes of the 2019 Synod, and the results of our recent pre-Synod process.

24 July ~   The man Ignatius, his spirituality, and his relevance for us today.

28 August ~  The role of women in the church: yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

25 September ~  The Apostolic Letter “Desiderio Desideravi” on the liturgical formation of the people of God.

23 October ~ The Church exists to evangelise. How can we form Missionary Disciples for Christ?

27 November ~  The Communion of Saints of our faith and the ancestors of our culture.
