The Seven Last Words
On Friday, 7 April 2017, Holy Trinity offered reflections on the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ from parishioners and Jesuits in the Parish. The Seven Last Words was a devotion promoted by members of the early Society of Jesus, and is referred to in the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius. Today these reflections are offered within the context of where we find ourselves today in South Africa. On Friday, 7 April 2017 many thousands of people took to the streets to protest and demonstrate. Our own parish joined in the Government’s appeal to work towards creating a stronger democracy and a better South Africa. As the nation expressed their feelings, we prayed for peace and offered the following reflections:
The First Word: “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.” (Luke 23:34)
