Africa Trailrun UPDATE
I would like to say a big thank you to all those who have already pledged generously towards the Pronutro AfricanX Trailrun in the Western Cape taking place 16-18 March 2012. Up until today, 21 February, a total amount of R36,180.00 has been pledged! Thank you for your generosity and support. This amount has been pledged by just on 5% of the Parish and therefore I am hoping that we can raise R200,000.00 or more as parishioners continue to respond generously. I am also grateful to those who have come forward offering other sponsorship for the race. The amount raised already has brought a significant reduction to the debt Trinity has with the Archdiocese. It is my hope that many people in the parish will support this venture and, if we all put something in, together we will be able to summit this mountain!
The parish website will give regular updates. We have introduced an online registration system for the parish – we will no longer have “cards” that are filled in at mass and data captured afterwards but, through the website, capture your data into the parish database immediately. This will also form the basis of a mailing list for the parish. Please log onto the website and complete the “subscribe to our mailing list” form. Your details will then be updated and you will be part of the parish register and database! You will find the website at trinityjhb.co.za It is important that everyone does this so that we can ensure that your details are up-to-date and email address correct.
I have had a bit of a setback in training the last few days. I was in Durban last week for a few days and managed to catch a cold – it was overcast but very humid. This has meant no running for almost a week. I am, however, on the mend and will be on the road again soon!
The AfricaX Trailrun run is a 3 stage (3 day) event which incorporates various terrains in the Overstrand and Kogelberg mountains (in the Kleinmond area) and includes some sections on the beach. The 1st stage is a 32km stretch, the 2nd 33kms and the last day 25kms. You can read all about the event on the events website: http://www.stillwatersports.com
I will try, regularly, to post updates during the race on twitter which will also feed through onto the sidebar of the parish webpage. You can follow me on twitter – rpollittsj.
Thank you, once again, to all those who have responded generously to my request. If you have not had a chance to respond yet I ask that you consider making a contribution. For further information you can email me – frrussell@trinityjhb.co.za or Kelsey – parish@trinityjhb.co.za
I would like to, finally, wish you a holy and happy Lent 2012!
Best Wishes
Fr Russell Pollitt SJ
